Milton duo pave way to legal trouble, accused of renovation scam

Two men from Milton are accused of constructing nothing more than a scam after homeowners in the Etobicoke area gave deposits for home renovation work that was never completed. Toronto Police said the duo went door to door between June and October, speaking with homeowners about exterior home renovations and using the company name “Town and Country Paving.” Police said the two men would falsely advise homeowners of issues with their property before requesting a deposit for the renovations. “The two men would refuse to complete the job unless additional payments were made,” police said on Thursday in a news release. “The men would leave jobs unfinished and properties damaged.” Dominic Ward, 30, has been charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, mischief/damage to property not exceeding $5,000, mischief over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. John Ward, 23, faces identical charges. Investigators believe that there are more victims and images of the two men have been released. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police at 416-808-2204 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477) or 222tips.com .
